Cards for patrons under 18 years old will need a parent&#8217;s or guardian&#8217;s signature, identification and proof of address.\u00a0<em>You must be old enough to sign your name in order to obtain a library card.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Non-Resident Cards<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you do not live in Shelby County but would like a Shelby County Library Card, the fee is $30.00 annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to Bring<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>When you come to any Shelby County location for your card, you&#8217;ll need to fill out and sign an application. You will need a picture identification with proof of residency (driver&#8217;s license, or bill sent to home if you&#8217;re new to the area).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Renewing Your Card<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Resident Library cards are issued for three years. All other cards are issued for one year. You can renew your card in person at the Circulation desk at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.shelbycounty-al.org\/Directory.aspx\">any location<\/a>\u00a0in the Shelby County Library District. You will still need to provide proof of residency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Report a Lost or Stolen Card Immediately<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Please call 205.439.5500 or come to any service desk. \u00a0Please report lost cards immediately because you are responsible for every item checked out on your card. Read on:<br><\/em>Once you&#8217;ve clicked on the link to log into your account<br>Enter your\u00a0<strong>Barcode Number<\/strong>\u00a0(located on the back of your library card,\u00a0<em>example- 21726123456789<\/em>)<br>Enter your\u00a0<strong>Password<\/strong><br>Click on\u00a0<strong>Items Out<\/strong><br><strong>Select the items<\/strong>\u00a0you would like to renew<br>Click on\u00a0<strong>Renew Selected Items<\/strong>\u00a0OR\u00a0<strong>Renew All Items<\/strong><br>After you have completed your renewals be sure to\u00a0<strong>Log Out.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Return of Materials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Library BOOKS can be returned to any Shelby County Library. All audio, video, games etc. must be returned to the branch you checked it out from. Mt Laurel has a drop box for items during off hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requests<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Materials in circulation may be requested through our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.shelbycounty-al.org\/POLARIS\/Search\/default.aspx?ctx=1.1033.0.0.4\/\">online catalog<\/a>, by phone at 205-991-1660, or in person at any desk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In your catalog search results you will see a &#8220;Place Request&#8221; button under the title. You will be prompted to choose a library location where your item will be held for you and you will receive email notification or an automated phone call that your item is ready for pickup. You have 5 business days to pick up your hold. Information on your requests is also available through your\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.shelbycounty-al.org\/POLARIS\/logon.aspx?src=http%3a%2f%2fcatalog.shelbycounty-al.org%2fPOLARIS%2fpatronaccount%2fdefault.aspx%3fctx%3d1.1033.0.0.4&amp;ctx=1.1033.0.0.4\">My Account page<\/a>.
